Attendance

Attendance at Lumberg Elementary

Attendance (District Regulation JH-R) is the responsibility of the student, the parents, and the school.  The importance of regular, daily attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized.  Absences have a negative effect upon instructional continuity, regardless of attempts to make up the work.  The district believes duplication of the classroom experience can never be accomplished with after-school assignments.  The school cannot teach students who are not present.  The regular contact of students with one another in the classroom and their participation in a well-planned instructional activity under the tutelage of a competent teacher are vital to this purpose.

Excused Absence

A school will require communication from a parent or guardian within 24 hours to verify the reason for a student absence. This can be in the form of text, phone call, or face to face. The school may require suitable proof regarding the above exceptions, including written statements from medical sources.

The following are considered excused absences:

  • A student who is temporarily ill or injured
  • A student whose absence is approved by the school administration on a prearranged basis.
    • Prearranged absences shall be approved for appointments or circumstances of a serious nature only, which cannot be taken care of outside of school hours.
  • A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental, or emotional disability and a doctor’s note is provided
  • A student who is attending a school sponsored activity or who is receiving Jeffco educational services shall not be considered absent for attendance reporting purposes.

School Hours

School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. If a student leaves before the school day ends or reports after school has begun the following will apply.

Students arriving after 8:35 and before 9:45 a.m. Tardy recorded, the tardy will be unexcused unless it is a documented medical/dental appointment
Students leaving before 9:45 a.m. Full day absence recorded
Students leaving between 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. Half-day absence recorded
Students leaving after 1:15 p.m. An early release is recorded

Attendance in Jeffco

The importance of regular, daily school attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is a shared responsibility of the student, the families and the school.

It is the family’s responsibility to ensure their student attends school and to notify the school when their student is absent for a legitimate reason, such as an illness or family emergency. Each family should also ensure their student’s school has their correct contact information so that the school is able to communicate about any attendance issues that may arise.
